Tamsen Butler is an award-winning author, Air Force veteran and busy mom. After her 2015 stroke she shifted her focus from writing and editing to fitness. A group fitness instructor prior to the stroke, Tamsen began studying for her personal training exam as a way to engage her damaged brain while also allowing her to learn more about safely getting strong again. Now a certified personal trainer, she still teaches gym classes while slowly reviving her writing career. Local post-stroke writing credits include Omaha Magazine, The Reader and Complete Transformation Magazine.
Her children (Monet, 12 and Abram, 11) and her husband Scott rallied behind her and continue to help her recover, facing the challenges together as a unified family and powerful team. She credits their help, along with the help of friends and the prayers of many, as having helped her nearly achieve “normal” again. She’s also thankful for the medical professionals who helped her and the American Heart Association for allowing her the opportunity to evolve from “stroke victim” into “stroke survivor advocate.”
